~The making of part 2~ An important part of any recreation, either from a drawing or from a screen outfit, is picking out the details. Though a distinctive dress, I have to admit without a Jereth(~Alcblueyes, was a wonderful Jareth), this character(even in the original outfit and with original actress) could be hard to identify. It's an older movie now, though well loved by many, but it tests people's memory.
The most significant detail is what silhouette the character makes, this is what distinguishes them. The silhouette is all about shape. For Sarah, this was puffy sleeves, a big ball dress, and massive hair. There are many shapes the skirt part of a ballgown can have: cone, round elliptical, ect. Hair is the most distinctive part of any person. People change cloths day to day, but few people change their hair daily. It's part of the "facial" recognition process. I wore a dark wig to work one day, and some people were wondering who the new girl was. To get these shapes correct is one thing, the next is to make sure they are in proportion to your body and to the rest of the look. I have made a previous deviation concerning how to calculate proportionality: [link]
After shape's importance I would put color. The hair's color is of utter most importance. For Sarah this isn't so hard, since it's a simple dark brown. The dress's color is another story. In a memory of the dress, a person my call it "white," but colors have many tones and shades. Something in a darker room, that is a pale gray, might be remembered as white. I think this picture is a great example of this. I know, that the dress has a grey hue to it, but it may appears very white in the picture.
This last thing is fine details. What little things are going on in the look? These details will be poured over in following Deviations. Such things has, what is in the hair? What patterns are happening in the fabrics? Jewelry, gems placement... ect ect ect These are what makes the look make expensive, elegant, and in general captures the imagination of a little girl so much that she still is in love with the dress many years after she has grown up.

I think my favorite part, dumb as this is, is Jareth's contacts!! I thought you did the two color eye thing but it's really close to being what it really is, that one pupil is bigger! That's awesome, I love it!
